A cordless speaker is one of the many wireless systems we enjoy so often, whether we're watching a DVD or listening to a CD or radio music. You can even catch your favorite TV shows. Speakers without cables or cords have freed us up to take our tunes and media wherever we go.
Speakers that work without cords pick up their audio signal using equipment that detects radio waves. The sound is transmitted into this signal, and then the sound is boosted by the speakers' amplifiers. You can usually hear the sound from a cordless speaker from about three hundred feet away outdoors, or a hundred or more feet indoors, even if you're separated from the music by walls and ceilings. Cordless type speakers are rather modest, both in size and in sound. So the audio boost needs to be powerful, since it is amplified through each one of your speakers. The amplifier itself needs AC power or batteries to support the function it fulfills.
One of the few disadvantages of wireless speakers is the fact that if your speakers need batteries, this can make them more expensive to run than traditional speakers. In addition, they may interfere or block other devices in your house that use electricity.
So, with radio wave technology, the signals from the source of the audio are detected by receivers inside the speakers. A cordless speaker can either work on its own or supplement the sound from a wired speaker. This is advantageous for people who would like their audio files or radio played everywhere in the house while they do chores.
